At least some of the time during EL years, coal for the Bow NH plant was handled by PC and interchanged to B&M at Rotterdam Jct. Apparently during the early 70's, derailment of the "Bow Coal" on the Water Level Route was a near-annual event. This coal probably originated further west on PC lines, B&LE or perhaps even LEF&C. I don't recall seeing photos of Bow coal on EL-D&H; most or all the P&S traffic went to the Portland PA generating plant. Did EL in fact participate in the NH coal? Another question: it appears that the junction with the Brockway branch at Carrollton faced west, so did the "Carrollton coal trains" reverse at Salamanca before heading east? Paul B The Pittsburg & Shawmut ended up in the Dumaine family -- F.C. and "Buck" -- and, if it survives, remains there, along with a LOT of coal. Some of that coal provides the electricity for me to type this, and it comes up former Erie lines to come east to Bow, NH. The railroad and the coal gave the Dumaines a foundation from which to try to save the New Haven and to get into the Bangor & Aroostook.
