Re:Re:(erielack) cutoff

I agree it's odd, particularly since the status of Andover in the Cut-Off
proposal has been questioned by some. The site does have the advantage of
being near Route 206 (for Newton/Sparta commuters), but there isn't room
for a huge parking lot and I don't see any significant number of passengers
coming off Route 80 and travelling the five miles or more north to get
there. It would make sense for a Route 80 traveller--we're speaking year
2010 or later--to go to Mt. Arlington (Exit 30) rather than use the
Cut-Off. Where I think the Cut-off will derive it's ridership will be Mt.
Pocono, Analomink and Tinkertown crossing (Delaware Water Gap) in PA and
local ridership at Blairstown, Andover and, in the future, Greendell and
Johnsonburg in NJ. I think whoever wrote the piece at NJ Transit didn't
know what they were writing since it implies an engine change at Andover,
which is, of course, absurd.

It just seems odd that they would single out Andover as the target for a
one-seat ride to Penn Station, instead of Blairstown, Stroudsburg or, for
that matter, Scranton.

Unless Andover will be the location of a massive park-ride facility tied
directly to I-80?

Yes, Andover has been proposed as a stop on the Cut-off, although it's
status in the initial prposal is unclear
