The station dates way back and regardless of the technical term or form of Government (I'm not familiar with NJ) I remember reading of the circumstances surrounding the building of the station, as at the same time DL&W was replacing others due to crossing elimination. What the writer stated was the cities/towns (now I'm politically correct?) were all asked for help as it was a massive project benefiting all.
