Remember when these stations were being built 100 odd years ago, the
Lackawanna was virtually swimming in cash, being able to fund the cut-offs
and grade separations entirely out of their profits.  President Truesdale
wanted ostentation and to demonstrate the majesty of his company.  The Erie
just didn't have the buying power for conspicuous displays of wealth, so
their depots were more "suburban".  While the Lackawanna's stations spoke
(corporate) wealth, the Erie had some of the best looking town stations
anywhere.
