But it wasn't "majestic," per se. I'd agree with you that this was probably the nicest station on the Erie side (particularly its landscaping). I always thought that Rutherford was another nice Erie NJ station. Morristown screams "majestic," especially when one considers it's in the middle of suburban NJ. (then again, the DL&W tended to go "over the top" on a lot of its suburban stations, notably Boonton and Millburn [both same design]) DL&W's efforts were interesting, too, as station type was widely varied - from the small wooden structures on the Gladstone Branch to the large brick and concrete stations along the M&E. Erie's efforts aimed less for the majestic and more for the "neat-and-functional." Erie's stations were always nicely maintained and attractive looking, but you could tell they were an Erie station just based on the design of the structure. Heading west, here are my personal opinions: DL&W SIDE: The Poconos fielded a lovely array of neat wooden stations, and Scranton station screamed "majestic." A wonderfully dominating edifice. ERIE SIDE: Port Jervis was an impressive structure, though it always seemed to me as if they took a standard Erie station and just made it bigger, adding neat spires. West of there, the stations were neat and very obviously "rural" stops. Then we hit Binghamton. My personal opinions here: DL&W station = classic design. Erie station = classic example of industrial-era "yech." Sorry Erie fans, but I'm not a fan of their Binghamton station.
