Is X tower similar to Suffern? Tony Horn ELHS #2 - -----Original Message----- From: "Tupaczewski, Paul R (Paul)" <paultup_@_lucent.com> Sent: Nov 30, 2005 9:56 AM To: "'erielack_@_lists.elhts.org'" <erielack@lists.elhts.org> Subject: (erielack) December calendar photo... Tomorrow begins December, so it's time to turn the calendar... The December EL calendar image features a shot that, at first glance, appeared to be Campbell Hall. But it's not - it's the EL's crossing of the PRR at Olean, NY at X Tower. This day's train is led by a typical mid-1960s EL lashup (where they ran matched sets of new motive power), featuring three GP35s in numerical order (2563-2565). All the GP's are part of the second order that featured the thinner sidesill section over the fuel tank and the roadname in yellow in the maroon band. They also have the black glass numberboards with "hollow" numbers, which would soon be replaced with white plexiglass with black numbers. The photo must have been taken shortly after delivery, as the units still have their horns in the original location on the fireman's side of the cab. These would later be moved to the center of the top of the cab to conform with EL's new clearance diagrams. We can also see some details in the freight cars on this train - head out are four hoppers (I assume empties, as this train appears to be headed west) The cars at the right rear of this image - is that on an interchange track with the Pennsy here? Also note the "Erie-standard" design of this tower. Has anyone ever thought about coming out with a laser-cut wood kit that allows you to build the variations of this type of tower? Or at least just the parts needed to kitbash any tower? Effectively, this tower is sort of a "double-width" version of Waldwick, with a few detail differences. I think that would sell well, wouldn't it? - Paul The Erie Lackawanna Mailing List Sponsored by the ELH&TS http://www.elhts.org The Erie Lackawanna Mailing List Sponsored by the ELH&TS http://www.elhts.org ------------------------------
