(erielack) P & D RR

The Lehigh Valley Railroad East of Mauch Chunk

By William T. Greenberg, Jr. & Robert F. Fischer Page 65.

Describes the history of the charters of the Passaic Valley & Peapack
Railroad (PV&P) and of Asa Packer's interest in the New Jersey West Line
railroad and how that road went bankrupt when the Lehigh Valley lost it
interest in the PV&P RR. This was sold at a foreclosure to Roswell G.
Rolston and reorganized as the Passaic & Delaware (1878). Rolston and
all the new officers of the P & D were on the DL&W. Every thing east of
Summit was abandoned P & D was leased to DL&W in 1882 and the line
extended from Bernardsville to Gladstone in 1890.

Thomas Taber's The DL&W RR in the Nineteenth Century on pages 134 thru
141 gives more detailed information on the NJWL, P&D and the Gladstone
Branch.
