The Hoboken Shore was as flat as a board, unfortunately, since it was right
at the Hudson River and never ventured further than a half-mile inland from
the Hudson River.

The DL&W and Erie both gradually climbed away from their respective
riverfront terminals. The DL&W starts its slow climb just as it passed the
MU shed, while the Erie was relatively flat until it hit the approach
viaduct to the "Bergen Arches," where it made a significant climb to reach
the level of the cut.

The only areas where you have elements of elevation are the Palisades which
separate the strip of flat land along the Hudson and the marshy swamps weat
of there, and the only things with tracks that went atop the Palisades were
the local trolley lines (one of which climbed up an impressively large
trestle out of Hoboken)  Most of the other railroads bored or cut through
them (NYC/West Shore, DL&W, Erie), while some simply went around them (CNJ,
PRR [Jersey City])

I'm trying to combine the best of both worlds, modeling a small HBS section
connecting to Croxton Yard on my EL layout. That we I can get my elevation
changes and also neat street trackage running.
