Re: (erielack) Cars behind caboose



Cars in question were added to the head end of the 99's at Meadville.   It 
was usually a rush car for Akron.
 
In the event that the car could not be moved from the east end of Meadville  
West Yard to the west end for pick-up in a timely manner, the yard crew would  
tack the car on behind the caboose and hang a lantern or reflective disc on 
the  car's knuckle.  
 
There were various reasons that the car could not get to the west end of  the 
yard:  derailment in a strategic location, tracks full, train doubled  out at 
the west end to depart, etc.  There were only four long tracks in  Meadville 
West Yard---1-2-3- and 4.
