(erielack) Southern Tier signals?

Not to mention vandalism. When copper prices rise, they'll cut the line,
attach one end to a pickup truck and drive along the maintenance path,
stripping it off as they go.

The "pole line" is the line of poles next to the tracks, which carry the
wires for such things as power for the signals and switches, grade crossing
protection, etc. Many roads have eliminated the pole lines in favor of
buried fiber optic cable. Besides having the effect of opening up more
photographic angles, it also virtually eliminates the disruptions caused by
environmental issues, such as fallen trees, ice, derailments, etc.
