Mike, I'm not sure I fully understand your question. Erie or EL would not
interchange Chicago cars at Buffalo to NYC unless the customer specified it
on the waybill, and this would certainly not be in trainload quantities. If
you're referring to trackage rights, it's an intriguing thought, using
rights to bypass Dayton Hill on the B&SW. EL did it by routing most traffic
the long way around via River Jct and Salamanca. Going west on NYC would
present a problem due to bypassing Meadville and other yards between there
and Galion OH. Most of the Buffalo trains were drag freights that worked
these points.

Just a question on routing. How would a train from Buffalo NY to Chicago
Ill be routed? Would it go South to Salamanca, Then turn West and on to
Chicago? Or would it be interchanged with New York Central and head West
on their tracks.
