Chuck, 1. The west end of the siding was controlled by Stroudsburg and the East end was controlled by Port Morris 2. The towers open at the time of the Conrail take over were: former DL&W - Stroudsburg, Port Morris, Dover, Denville, Summit, Roseville Ave., Newark, West End, Grove Street (Hoboken), Hoboken Terminal Tower. The drawbridge at Lyndhurst was an interlocking controlled by the bridge operator (not a towerman) as was the Lower Hackensack drawbridge at West End. former Erie - Suffern (SF), Waldwick (WC), Ridgewood (WJ) HX and DB drawbridges. Also, speaking of towers, what former DL&W towers were still in operation in NJ at the time of the Conrail takeover? That was torn up way back in the 60's some time. As a holdover from that siding there was a home signal at East Slateford (where the siding ending) that was still there until the end. Everytime there was a lightening storm around the Water GAp, the relay house there at East Slateford was stuck and screwed up everything for hours. I thought the only passing siding on the cut-off was at Greendell. Perhaps you're thinking about the "Old Road" coming off at Slateford, which forked into two tracks just past the Junction? - - Paul P.S.
