RE: (erielack) Port Morris Intermodal?

NJ Transit typically calls its own shots unless an edict from above
dictates policy otherwise. Right now, without the Cut-Off, Port Morris is
of minimum strategic value as an intermodal stop. Put back the Cut-Off
and, yes, the landscape changes dramatically.

Not necessarily, depending on how much an operator wanted to pay for
real estate. That's why I also suggested the area between Riverview
Drive and Rout 23 in Wayne. It's a flood plane, not worth much with
access to I-80, US 46, and 23. It doesn't take a lot of space to
operate an intermodal facility. The NS operation in Alexandria,
Virginia is long and narrow. Only minimal locomotive servicing takes
place there. The question for the greater New York area is: Do they
need another terminal like this?

Unfortunately, this is all a moot point right now with NJ Transit using
the
yard for various activities. However, if commuter service were to be
moved
to Washington and East Stroudsburg it's possible that Port Morris could
be
cleared out for other uses.
