(erielack) RE: Boonton Line Freight

>About 0800 the Greenwood Lake Haul/Silver Lake. If my memory is
correct these jobs were combined near the end of the EL. Did work on Orange
Branch (what was left) along the main to Little Falls and Mt. View as necessary.
When the Caldwell Branch was open this job went up there as necesaary and
that really wasn't much before the washouts that took the branch out of service.

Was there a lot of business left north of Mt. View? (Wayne?) Was there
anymore interchange with the NYS&W at Pompton Jct, or had it all gone
to Croxton or Passaic Jct by that time?

From 1975 through the first years of Conrail the "Silver Lake Drill would arrive at Great Notch westbound in the early afternoon a couple times a week, it would venture up the former Greenwook Lake Branch north of Mountian View and work one or two customers there. I know Morris Pipe by Route 23 and a customer that gets covered hoppers are served by NYS&W today. Both were former EL customers. Most days it returned east with just a few cars, on some occasions it came eastbound quite a train, that little switcher would put on quite a show clawing it's way uphill at Great Notch as the westnound rush hour started. Conrail even used the Silver Lake Drill to shove the Totowa Roustabout and some freights (Along with the Totowa Roustabout's train) on rare accasions!
