This is one coupon of a 'shinplaster' ticket - each leg of a trip requiring a separate coupon, they could get to be a foot long or more. They were preprinted for routes that were commonly sold; otherwise the station names would be rubber-stamped. I believe the North Penn RR was one of the Reading's predecessors. This trip went Reading from Philadelphia to Allentown, CNJ (often controlled by the Reading) to Easton, then DLW to Hackettstown. Yes, a stage coach was involved, but I don't think it was included in the train fare, but the stage coach operators were smart enough to know when the trains were due and met them. DLW timetables of the era included Schooley's Mountain on the Hackettstown line. That area was a popular resort destination for the 'upper crust'. - --- Tim <njmidland_@_peoplepc.com> wrote: > NOTE: This message had contained at least one image attachment. > To view or download the image(s), click on or cut and paste the > following URL into your web browser: > > > http://lists.elhts.org/listthumb.cgi?erielack-10-02-05 > > HACK_TIK.jpg (image/pjpeg, 409x213 37265 bytes, BF: 2.34 ppb) > > I recently purchased the ticket purchased here.
