Re: (erielack) Question about a Lackawanna ticket



This is one coupon of a 'shinplaster' ticket - each leg of a trip
requiring a separate coupon, they could get to be a foot long or more. 
They were preprinted for routes that were commonly sold; otherwise the
station names would be rubber-stamped.

I believe the North Penn RR was one of the Reading's predecessors.  This
trip went Reading from Philadelphia to Allentown, CNJ (often controlled by
the Reading) to Easton, then DLW to Hackettstown.

Yes, a stage coach was involved, but I don't think it was included in the
train fare, but the stage coach operators were smart enough to know when
the trains were due and met them.  DLW timetables of the era included
Schooley's Mountain on the Hackettstown line.  That area was a popular
resort destination for the 'upper crust'.
