(erielack) Roofwalks and ladders on gray EL boxcars

Hello everyone,

I'm looking for some information concerning the rebuilding and
repainting of DL&W and Erie boxcars into the EL grey paint scheme.
The car that caught my eye is EL 73558, and the photo is on the pay
side of the NEB&W website. For those who can access it, the photo
is at:

73558-SD-Marty.jpg

This car appears to be an ex-DL&W 1937 AAR design 40ft boxcar, with
a shop date of 1961 at Meadville. It would have delivered with a
wooden roofwalk. When it was repainted and renumbered, did it
recieve a steel roofwalk, and if so, what kind? Also,
this car has
an eight rung on the side at the B-end. It would have been
delivered with a seven rung ladder. Was this a common replacement,
and were all ladders replaced, or just those needing it? Any help
would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Mark Heiden
