For the record -- the trestle-on-a-curve at CP NAVE was installed by Penn Central, as PC's way of avoiding the $8-million that Irving Maidman was demending as the purchase price of the NYS&W. The ICC had directed that NYS&W be included in the PC merger. I would guess that the line west of Swamp Switch would be but a memory (save maybe PC-Marcal Paper?) had Irving's price been cheaper, than, say, CP NAVE <g>. All those rabid yellow-jacket fans probably ought to consider it a very special shrine, worthy of special adoration. NAVE was put in by Penn Central, I believe, and it was meant to connect the PRR with the NYC in Weehawken via the National Docks Branch (parallel to the Erie Weehawken Branch). I think it's out of service now, since all trains running out of the former PRR South Kearny yard now traverse the "new Conrail connection" highlighted in Jim's map, traverse the Northern, and re-enter the NYC trackage at North Bergen. I don't think there are any moves from South Kearny that go to Croxton anymore, are there? The Erie Lackawanna Mailing List Sponsored by the ELH&TS http://www.elhts.org ------------------------------
