(erielack) 2 questions UPS trailer on EL

Yes to both trailer questions. I presume you're referring to the Athearn RTR
models. The 40' UPS drop-frame trailer first appeared in early 1974 and by
1976 had largely replaced the older vertical-ribbed vans. The EL trailer is
approximately correct for the series of plain, uninsulated vans placed in
service in the mid to late 60's. By the 70's, EL had switched to a more
spartan paint scheme for trailers, but some of the earlier ones remained in
service in the 70's. The STTX reporting mark for the 85' flatcar is
incorrect, as this was used for 89' flush deck cars equipped with sliding
bridge plates in the
"Twin-45" conversion program of the 1980's. The "S" can be painted over.
Trailer Train switched to the yellow scheme in 1971, but plenty of bcr cars
kept their original paint through the 1970's.

The Athearn cars are a huge improvement over the original kits. The main
remaining problem is incorrect hitch placement, especially the rear hitch,
which needs to be moved back a scale foot to clear a trailer with
nose-mounted reefer unit. Contact me if you'd like more modelling tips for
this equipment.

Good Afternoon, I just got ahold of one of the new STTX 85'TOFC. Can I
put a UPSZ 40'parcel trailer on this car and be correct? I know that EL
did run UPS trains. I was wondering if the EL trailer is correct for the
time period? I realise that with the EL be in service only 16 years it
is up to the individaul to set his/her prefferences.
