RE: (erielack) Cutoff question

One of the things CR did not want to happen was for the Scranton Route to go to a third party. Several groups were interested in purchasing the line. I think there was even dreams of a large intermodal facility to be constructed at Port Morris. CR was oppossed to that and New York State was paying for the rehab of the Susquhanna Devision so they pulled the rails even though several Pennsylvania and New Jersey politicians oppossed the idea.

Pat, not sure what time period you're referring to, but in the early Conrail
years ('76-'77), some of the cwr that had only recently ('74-'75) been
installed on the Lackawanna side (after EL decided it would be the preferred
route) was lifted for relay on the Erie side east of Bingo, when CR
determined it didn't want the former DL&W line. I recall seeing the work
along the
Delaware R in '77.

I have read in several places that the Lackawanna Cutoff rail was
desperately needed in a rail relay program at that time..
Anyone know where it was realyed to???
