I received the latest issue either yesterday or Monday
in the mail. Needless to say I read it that evening.
It's another fine issue and my hats off to Mike
Schaffer and his staff. (I'm sure this will bring
some flames, but I feel credit should be given where
it's due. - I guess that the question is whether the
flaming will be preformed in lower case or all caps?
(LOL)).
In Mike's article on State Line, I noticed that the
diagram of the plant and the constituent RR's is
oriented with N to the lower right hand corner, not to
the top as is the norm in map-making.
My sense is that it was prepared this way for use by
the tower personnel. As the tower was on the
northeast side of the Erie, and the windows looked out
on a southwest perspective, they could lay the diagram
out on their desk and have it reflect the same
perspective as their view out onto the various RR
lines they controlled.
Does my guess pass muster? Is there anyone who worked
or was familiar with the tower's ops who could speak
to this?
I await your responses. (In either upper or lower
case, I don't care about either, it's the experiences,
info and perspective of those who lived the Erie /
DL&W / EL that matter to me (maybe I should have typed
dl&w and el, so some people won't erroneously conclude
that I'm yelling at them!).
Regards,
Chris Thurner
