Re: (erielack) Erie Airslides



That would have been me; specifically flour (grain is not powdered). Buffalo
was a major flour milling center; recall the flour sack logo on Buffalo
Creek boxcars. Cement would (hopefully) have been carried in cars assigned
to cement service, although one can think of some unappetizing scenarios if
a car was misrouted; that batch of flour would definitely not be the
self-rising variety. However, strange things can happen in this far-flung
difficult-to-supervise industry. I have a book with a picture of a Great
Northern cylindrical covered hopper being loaded with vermiculite; a large
stencil reads "For Food Products Only". How would you like some of THAT with
your cornflakes!
