(erielack) Odd signal

Not so odd.

This signal is an old US&S color light style, not too different in concept
and general appearance from the GRS signals that were common at the same time
(1920s-1950s) on NYC and the Safetran signals that were installed as a system
standard by Conrail.

These US&S signals were installed on the Allegany Division about 1926 between
CB Junction and Salamanca. These block signals were still in use in the
1970s. Photos show that all of the home signals at CB were of this type until the
junction was converted to TCS in 1951, at which time the signal heads were
converted to US&S color light signals of the "traffic light" type.

The eastward home signal at MS Corry is of this old US&S style. IIRC, so is
the westward home signal at CP-OLEAN ("XB" on WNYP). Larry DeYoung's "New
York State" book includes a photo showing that the eastward home signal at CM
Junction was also of this type.
