(erielack) photo in "Locomotive Quarterly"/Erie express & mik trains



Were express and milk trains frequently combined?
There's a picture on an Erie train in the current "Locomotive Quarterly" which shows a long express train, definitely with baggage cars up front, then express ereefers (may be milk reefers)and then a large number (maybe 20) of classic Erie "milk" cars shown in the 1941
CBC and an RMC article of long ago. These milk cars look like 40 ft. box cars with reefer doors, Buckeye ends and Viking corrugated roofs.
I wonder if it's a milk train due to absence of Bordens butter dish cars and containers on flat cars.
