Re: (erielack) logos and wings in Australia

During WWII, the Erie raised a Railway Battalion for the Army, and it served in Australia. Anthony "Andy" Sanok, Passenger Trainmaster at Jersey City before he was commissioned in the Army, was one of the officers in the unit. Either he or one of his relatives told me that Victorian Railways adopted the Erie wings as a tribute to the Erie men after the war.

Andy caught Malaria or some tropical disease in Australia which left him with health problems after the war, so he did not return to the official ranks of the Erie when he returned. He retired as a crew dispatcher at Hoboken, probably the most highly regarded crew dispatcher ever to serve the Erie and EL.
