RE: (erielack) Okay, A new set of EL questions

As for your question about the steepest grade I will submit the
approximately .95% ruling grade southbound on the Syracuse Branch
between Syracuse, mp 34.88, and Apulia Station, mp 56.39, a total of
21.51 miles. I will disclose that this information is from a study of
topographic maps and not actual DL&W or EL track charts. This grade was
steep enough to warrant helper service and, for a period of time, double
tracking. A wye was provided just north of Apulia Station so that
engines could be turned for the return trip back to Syracuse if needed.

BTW, just last month NYS&W ran a tank train southbound out of Syracuse
on this line with helpers on the back end.

Subject: (erielack) Okay, A new set of EL questions

1) What was the biggest (Steepest and longest) Grade on the system?

2) What was the busiest area of the EL System?

3) Which area(s) was known for being the biggest dispatcher nightmare
due to inability to keep trains moving and where the dispatcher just got
stressed out and fustrated?

Thanks Guys/Gals, on my last question (EL power) was very informative! I
appriciate all the help everybody has been!
