Re: (erielack) EL Motive power arrangements



I believe that NJDOT purchased the trainsets for the EL (and CNJ) to 
use.  NJDOT used the black & silver scheme to keep them visibly 
different than railroad-owned equipment.  If NJDOT equipment were moved 
from one railroad to another, it was a simpler matter to remove the 
small railroad identification on the engines and equipment than to 
repaint the entire engine.

The museum for which I volunteer has a number of the stainless steel 
coaches which NJDOT bought from the Santa Fe for commuter service on the 
EL & CNJ.  The only railroad identification was a small logo, one on 
each side of the car, which was fairly easily removed.
