Something else you can do: take the Circle Line tour (I think the pier is at
W 42nd) around the island, bring some old maps (including the back cover of
The Diamond V19#1) and do some "industrial archeology". You can check out
the locations of the old piers and float bridges, some of which still exist
on the Brooklyn side. You can see the Lackawanna ferry terminal, CNJ
station, the location of NYC's High Bridge and Weehawken yards and rebuilt
West Side bridge. Perhaps spot som Metro North and Amtrak trains, catch some
(hopefully) cool breezes along the Hudson, all from the comfort of your
seat. It should be considerably warmer than when I last did this in
November, when I about froze to death!
