RE: (erielack) Power Station Question

The reason I brought this up is that I never saw any long unit trains of
coal either on the old Lackawanna Boonton Line or when it was cut over
to the Greenwood Lake at Mountain View. For that matter I don't recall
seeing any hoppers around the power station. Maybe it did come in on a
barge but that would be a long trip to ship coal via a water route.

There are two lines leading into the PSE&G GS. The one at the north end
comes in from the old Greenwood Lake/Boonton Line. The one at the south
end came in from Marion Jct. The switch is still in.

About a couple of years ago, some transformers were shipped down
the
Hudson River on a barge, and the xformers were offloaded onto flatcars,
and sent out through the Boonton Line switch. Up until the Boonton line
was severed at west end, NJT kept MOW equipment there on occasion.

If you ever get to West End, you can see the switch that comes
off of
Conrail/NS at what was Marion Jct. and goes into PSE&G property up to
what was a covered pit. It is possible that PSE&G received coal by rail
at Marion Jct. If so, it could have come from either Erie, EL or PRR.
They now receive coal via barge. I've heard it comes by rail from the
west to Philadelphia, then by barge to the generating station.

The Marion Generating Station was sandwiched between the Boonton,
Greenwood Lake and M&E Lines. However I don't think Erie, DL&W, or EL
ever served it. Am I right. Who did supply coal to it? PRR, NYC?
