To answer your question: "Where was the siding in Caldwell?"

It was right in front of the station at Caldwell - Sheppard's track diagram
book notes is was 10 cars in length, and was on the south side of the main,
along with a short team track.

Although I was too young to remember passenger service, I do remember
Caldwell yard being full of cars around the Christmas season for unloading
by what I had been told was for the Two Guys department store chain - After
Vornado (owners of Two Guys) built the Vornado Industrial Park on the M&E in
Hanover (I believe) in the early '70's, much of this traffic then
disappeared off the Branch, leaving onlyBahr Lumber and West End Lumber in
Verona, plus the occassional car set off in Caldwell for local unloading...
