Subject: TWO DIFFERENT QUESTIONS
I was thinking about the end of steam on the Lackawanna 52 years ago in June of 1953 and this question came to mind. I know that Perry Shoemaker wanted to continue steam operations a little longer but I also realized that diesels were going to take over. Here's the question: When was the last Lackawanna Steam engine given a comple overhaul? I assume it was probably one of the Pacifics, but I'm wondering how much time these engines had left before major maintenance would be required?
Secondly, and a totally different subject, I will probably be doing some darkroom work this summer. I have some 30 and 40+ year old negatives with dirt and grime on them. What is the safest way to clean them? Any ideas.
Thanks,
Ed Montgomery
