WAG CONFERENCE - complete schedule - UP DATED June 29th,

On August 13th and 14th in Galeton, PA, the WAG CONFERENCE will be presented to share the areas railroad history.

The Business and Professional Woman's Club of Galeton, PA.,

the Galeton Chamber of Commerece, Galeton, PA.,

the Rotary Club, of Galeton, PA., and

Piney Creek Model Works, are the proud sponsors of:

############# THE WAG CONFERENCE ###############

A day dedicated to the memory of the WA&G RR, and the preceding railroads that made the trackage for, and the operations of the Wellsville Addison and Galeton Railroad, possible.
Those being, the Buffalo & Susquehanna, the Baltimore & Ohio Railroad, and the C&PA RR, through historical presentations, slides & pictures, and other media.

The DATES for the TWO DAY event are Saturday, August 13th, and August 14th, 2005.

A great program has developed. We will be hosting noted railroad historians who will be presenting their favorite road, in verbal presentation, and other media.

Bringing you the Buffalo & Susquehanna Railroad, is noted author Paul Pietrak, who has written several books on railroads in Potter County, naming two, "The B&S" and "Coudersport & Port Allegany/New York & Pennsylvania". Paul will show us why " The New Way" was doomed as being the best way.

Presenting the Baltimore & Ohio Railroad is author Bill Reddy, with his life long love of the B&O, will be sharing from one of the largest collections of pictures and history of the B&O as it operated from and around the Galeton area.

As a young boy, Bill had the opportunity, (and took it), and rode the B&O branch south from Galeton to Keating Summit, over all 5 switchbacks!

Presenting the Wellsville Addison & Galeton Railroad, will be Contributing Editor for Railroad Model Craftsman magazine, Robert Mohowski. Bob has authored several books on another favorite fallen flag of his, the New York Ontario & Western.

Bob really enjoys the PA mountains of the surrounding Galeton area, and liked the WAG so much, he bought and paneled his den with the wood siding from a dismantled B&M/WAG single sheathed outside braced boxcar.

Dennis Tiley spent over two years as a Maintenance of Way engineer with the Reading Railroad Co., and then spent 35 years with the Pennsylvania State Department of Transportation with the Engineering Deptment.

Dennis will discuss what the H.E. Salzberg Co. and scrap iron dealing was, and the fascinating story of what the Salzberg empire of short line railroads was all about.

Michael Schleigh, at one time worked with the General Electric Company's locomotive division in Erie, PA. (the same in the late 30's, built the GE center cabs). He then worked with the Cooper Industries. (The company that powered those 8 Big FORD/WAG GE locomotives). Later, Cooper Industries was acquired by GE, so again, Mike now works for the General Electric Co. It only makes railfan sense that he would develop an interest in the WAG RR.

As a young boy in his teens, Mike has been very interested in the WAG, B&O, and Erie RR.
Mike's presentation will focus on the many different types of railroad rolling stock that was on the WA&G roster.
For a small shortline railroad, the WAG had a large, diversified amount of rolling stock. Being an avid modeler too, Mike will also discuss aspects of modeling the WAG.

Joe Lofland, of JJL Models will conduct a seminar on construction of resin models and building resin kits, which, right now is where "most" of the available "HO" rolling stock applicable to the
WAG is found.

Joe has been working in resins for years, and has seen the compounds used in the resins improve, and become much more stable.
He has a number of hints and a few tricks to make assembly of that resin kit easier than you realized.

David Augsburger, noted historical rail photographer, will share his fantastic slide show on the WAG and C&PA. David has a vast photo and slide collection that he has taken over the years, of not just the
mid and North East railroads, but railroads in many states.
His works have seen print in many rail book publications.

David Clark, is an artist and an art teacher in the Addison school district.
David will be displaying great railroad works of the B&O, WAG, Erie, and EL on canvas, in different mediums. These items besides being on display, will also be available for purchase.

We have a few surprises scheduled, and are looking for a few other programs in film and video.

It is planned to run the WAG CONFERENCE as a continuing event, starting at 9am Saturday morning, with a 45(max), minute presentation, and a following 15 minute question and group interaction discussion, then a 15 minute break.

The next program presenter will then start, in the same time sequencing, and so it will go, continuing right through the day.

During the days of the WAG CONFERENCE, when our stomachs are grumbling for food, at our bekon call will be The Galeton Athletic Association, will be our sustanant source.

The menu will consist of hamburgers, cheeseburgers, hot dogs, cheese dogs, bottled water, and a variety of carbonated drinks, and other food consumables. They will be present, at the school site, for the two day event.

A MOST IMPORTANT NOTE:

We ARE INCLUDING SUNDAY, August 14th, 2005, to make the WAG CONFERENCE, a TWO DAY event.

(June 29th, 2005)
We have just received word that all attendees of Saturdays WAG CONFERENCE, have been invited to the first open house and layout tour of the DS&N RR, (Dolittle Seemore & Nap Railroad).
This event is scheduled to begin, Sunday morning August 14th, at 10 AM.
This will be QUITE a bit different than a regular layout tour, as it is to be held OUTSIDE, and all the equipment and rolling stock is in 1/8 scale! (Remember, 8 times this scale and its full size).

Ed Pruitt is the owner/operator of The DS&N R.R. Along with Ed, is Mel Agne, who gives his devoted help and care in the railroads maintenance and operations.

If you never got that chance, or wished you could relive the experience again,..... both Ed and Mel hope to be able to give wanting visitors an opportunity to see and even ride a train being pulled behind actual Wellsville Addison & Galeton EMD F-7s #2200 and #2300, only a little smaller in size this time.
The event will be held, rain or shine, and should it be raining or very wet, the two WAG units and train, with a WAG caboose, will be on display for photos and a walk around.

Several items to note:
1. Car pooling with your WAG friends is encouraged, because parking at the area, is limited.
2. This operation is similar to actual railroad activities, and as in a full sized rail yard, there are hazards. Thinking safely and using Common sense while on the grounds is required.
3. Each guest will be required to sign a liability release upon entering the Pruitt property, holding you responsible for your own safety.
4. Directions to the DS&N RR layout, will be given on Saturday August 13th, at the Conference.

#### August 14th, day two of the WAG conference, will begin 1 pm, in the Galeton High School auditorium. This program, is the "Slides For All" group slide show presentation.

We are expecting the Galeton Athletic Association to again be present, and have the food concession operating before and while the slide show is going on. This will take some pressure off, concerning the time frame between the morning activity, and the time the slide show is to start, to get something to eat.

Bring your favorite slides of the B&O, B&S, WAG, C&PA, and also "Erie, EL, NYC, PC", ( that are related to the WAG CONFERENCE's Honored railroads, only please ). You will narate your own collection to the assembled group. We already have some attendees scheduled to participate in this event.

#### If this part of the program is something you want to be involved in, contact us so we can schedule you a time slot for the afternoon. ####

We are hoping many of you will take us up on this offer, and bring your favorites from you collection, and share them with the assembled group.

We are asking each person a limit of 35 minutes (max), per presentation. That process may be repeated again (with different slides), after everybody that wants to, has had a chance to present once.
These requested conditions might be subject to change.

####################################################################

So... that's it!

If you would like to be part of this railroad get-together in the beautiful valley of Galeton, PA., August 13th, 2005, please reply by July 20th, 2005, with a requested donation of $12.00 per person.
