Nearly everyone stays on I-80, so the bridge between Columbia NJ and Portland PA does not have a backup at its toll plaza. PA 611 is a two-lane road, but in the summer it's much faster than I-80 only 'locals' use it. I have only seen four-mile backups from the I-80 toll plaza, which begin just past exit 4. Usually it's possible to take exit 4 or the unmarked off ramp that leads back to the truck stop, then loop back to the bridge at Columbia. > Fortunately, the commuter bus driver knew enough to exit the freeway via > the Portland, PA exit, thus we missed the backup and were only five > minutes late arriving in Scranton. The bus driver probably has a few other tricks up his sleeve to deal with traffic problems. Under normal conditions, Martz makes better time between the PABT and Pocono points than the Lackawanna did. BTW, what's the bus fare these days? The Garden State Parkway is just as bad going 'down the shore'! Gary R.
