Looks like a typical reservation by telegram from an outlying station in the
days before it was all done by phone. The first is a request for lower berth
accomodation for train 9 on Aug 30, sent by the Bangor agent to the New York
passenger agent, relayed by Portland. The second is the response sent later
that day confirming the reservation, specifying the berth ("lower 4"), the
car
(Line no. 20) and the passenger (Radcliffe), also relayed through Portland.
Can anyone explain why this wasn't handled directly, Bangor-NYC?

Take a look at these documents. Train number 9 was the Buffalo Limited, it
went through East Stroudsburg at 11:35 pm. What were these documents for?
Was this the standard way that sleeper space was reserved?
