RE: (erielack) NYS&W caboose on EL?

Hi paul: When the NYSW gave up Passaic Jct. and started using Croxton
again, in order to speed up the interchange, we had two cabooses in that
pool. The usual move was: pull down into either the cut or the bergen
tunnel, then reverse for usually somewhere in "D" yard, caboose and all.
Then we would cut off, and lay on the hill next to the Northern
Branch(sometimes for hours). The EL would then pull our outbound train with
the OTHER caboose back into the cut or Bergen tunnel and then cut off. Then
we would come off the hill, tie on, and go. Sometimes, if the train was
heavy, the EL job would stay right on and help shove to get us over to
Marion Interchange. I remember the two hacks used most often were the 0112
& 0116. Rich Campana
