(erielack) CX-99 etc

Supporting your comments, Jim, V2 of DeYoung's "EL in Color" has a shot of
TC4 at PJ on pg 116, and behind it is an SW taking 2NY100's setoff to the
ramp, and it's only 3 trailers. Boston would generate a lot more traffic
than that. As an aside, I think Boston was served by a terminal in
Worcester; Conrail operated a TV9 which originated in W at 4:20 am and was
heavily UPS.

When inaugurated in 1972, ACX99 operated Tues-Thurs (ie weekday arrival and
departure only), but the 1974 ETT lists Tues-Sat operation.

Jim, your symbols list is a wonderful resource and I (and I'm sure many
others) appreciate you taking the time to compile it and make it available
to us. It looks pretty complete to me. I grew up in Toronto, and by the time
I acquired a car the EL unfortunately was gone. In June 1972, Agnes struck,
of course, and while the Water Level Route was unscathed and hosted many EL
freights, the finite no. of crews forced many EL trains onto Canadian rails.
A disaster for the RR was a potential windfall for the homebound Ontario
railfan: you couldn't go to the EL, but the EL came to you! However I didn't
find out about it until too late. The Upper Canada Railway Society
newsletter of 8/72 contained a complete listing of all detour freights, and
judging by the variety of symbols and consists, there was a lot of traffic
on the rails that summer. Here's a list of the ones that don't appear on
your list; some may be typos or otherwise in error, and some symbols may
have been created specifically for detour moves. If you're interested, Jim,
send me your mailing address and I'll send you a copy.

Eastbound: "Cannonball 100", BX74, PX74, EN98, SS100, PC4

Westbound: PBX1, TBX1, HF97, TO97, PSX3, PO97, EP1, AT1
