RE: (erielack) Erie Triplex understeam last year



I wonder what the exhaust sounded like.........I've heard Mallet types 
running- in video- & wondered what a set of 3 engines would be like. This 
made me think of something I had to post.

At 3am on the East end yard office in Binghamton yard (Conklin, NY), one of 
the older yard conductors was remoiniscing & said"Do you remember the time 
they sent one of those 3-cyilinder steam engines east on the runaround track 
& old man Mackin fell on his head running to lineup the lead 
switches??????". It sounded like the engine wqas coming at a good speed up 
this track that ran from near the river bridge all the way around the yard 
to the east end. Old Joe Mackin ran to line up for the move & tripped over 
the heavy rubber galoshes he wore. After a while the train appeared at about 
15 mph but sounding like it was going 30 or 40 mph. The picture of the 
triplex just jogged this grain loose from my memory.
