(erielack) June calendar image...

Hi folks,

Hope you all had a good Memorial Day weekend!

Getting back into the office this morning, I realize it's time to turn the calendar.... :) [1 day early, no big deal ;) ]

The June 2005 EL calendar features a rather commanding view of the long-hood-end of SDP45 3653 leading two other units (also running long-hood-forward) on hotshot train NY-99, slamming across the C&O diamonds at Marion Union Station in April, 1973. Another train (eastbound) can be seen behind the power as well.

LOTS of great detail in this shot! AC tower sits atop its perch in the background, and the imposing signal bridge dominates the scene. Marion Union Station looks a bit worse for wear (thank heavens to the Marion Union Station Association folks for doing a wonderful job restoring this unique structure!).

Interesting to me: The different signal aspects on the signal bridge - were the single target aspects multi-color, or just red? I assume these were all to control the interlocking at the entrance to the yard?

This also brings up another question - the Erie (and later EL) was a primarily eastbound-oriented railroad. Other than NY-99, what "hot" westbound trains were there?
