There was a big 2-story house on the Keyser Vlley side of Taylor
yard..........this stemmed from the days when Hampton Yard was a huge
facility for coal shipments. By the early 60s, Hampton was pretty much the
refuge for old coal cars but the house still stood there ovelooking a once
busy railroad yard. As we trundled a few cars to the remains of Keyser
Valley shops & going thru Hampton Yd on the way, I recieved another history
lesson from the old-head engineer. That there was the railroad YMCA when I
was your age....(probly about 1925 or so)...Now it's one of the biggest
w----houses in the back valley.
I guess the owner reasoned it already had the beds & numerous small
rooms & was relatively isolated soooo......
This was about 1962 or so.
Regards to all,
Walter E. Smith
