SantaFe heavyweight baggage cars, with the fishbelly side sills, ran regularly on the Erie between Chicago and Jersey City. The fishbellies make them esy to spot in almost any steam-era picture. They were probably carrying Los Angeles-New York bulk mail; the interchange at Dearborn Station in Chicago would guarantee some of the fastest coast-to-coast service possible. Sometimes, ATSF 50-foot double-door express boxcars, painted green, would appear in the same service. I believe this lasted into the EL times. Forwarding from Jersey City to New York would have been by truck, through the Holland Tunnel -- it is, after all, right there.
Passenger car photos: They abound. The ELHS Diamond is running a series on Erie non-Stillwell passenger cars; back issue would be a start.
Hopper cars? Any railroads's hopper cars could be seen, with the anthracite roads of Pennsylvania and the bituminous roads of Kentuck and West Virginia predominating: RDG, LV, DL&W, ERIE, B&O, C&O, N&W, D&H, WM, L&N spring to mind.

High, I'm new to this list but not Erie. I wrote an article for the Diamond about 20 years ago.
For modeling purposes I'm interested in the New York Division just after WWII.
What foreign (off road) hoppers would likely be seen on the Erie in the east in this time?
Does anyone recall or have other evidence of off road head end cars in Erie trains? How did mail and express gert from Jersey City to Manhattan?
Does anyone know of some sources of Erie rolling stock photos? I'm interested in cars built 1910-1940.
