ATSF drop side frame baggage cars were common on Erie trains east of Chicago, and John McCourt has provided pictorial evidence of an Erie ex-milk/cum epxpress box in San Bernardino.

If REA was involved and there was a shipment -- it went!  In whatever car was available.  You didn't hold up REA -- or the USMail, either.  Load it, route it and bill it -- in that order
