NYS&WT&HS PASSENGER CARS BROKEN INTO AND FIXTURE STOLEN: Two bi-level
passenger cars belonging to the NYS&W Technical & Historical Society
were broken into and interior fixtures were stolen sometime during the
week of March 6, 2005. The cars are former Chicago Metra commuter
coaches. The thieves carefully removed the luggage racks, door handles,
ventilation grilles, and even the rest room signs from the cars. The
thieves even took the bolts and screws used to attach the fixtures to
the cars. The theft does not appear to be the work of someone who
wanted the fixtures for scrap value. The cars were in North Bergen, NJ
awaiting shipment to Phillipsburg NJ, where they are to be used on the
Societies Delaware River Excursions this summer. A reward is being
offered for any information leading to the recovery of the stolen
fixtures and or the arrest of the individuals involved. Anyone who has
information on this can contact the society at: NYS&W, Technical &
Historical Society, Inc. P.O. Box 121, Rochelle Park, NJ 07662, or at
(877)-TRAINRIDE, or at information_@_nyswths.org. Any replies will be
held in the strictest confidence. (posted 3/20)
