That big spread, in the Diamond, on the Erie's 28th St. freight terminal, brought me back fifty years, to my first job: freight handler, with the New York Central, in Manhattan. I liked that work, especially working on center isle lighters, on the river. We'd unload a car right on the lighter, hand trucking its contents to the pier. One place we did that was pier 17, adjacent to the Lackawanna ferry terminal. Freight stations were all the same, no matter what road owned them, and those photos, in the article, are freight handler territory. The "worker" with the bridge plate on the hand truck, on page 15, looks like a freight handler to me.
