Recently there were some discussions regarding steam generators on EL equipment. I have acquired a document that provides some information for the later EL passenger equipment. The document is titled " ERIE LACKAWANNA DIESEL_ELECTRIC ROAD AND ROAD SWITCH LOCOMOTIVES". The document was produced by "Office of Chief Mechanical Officer" - dated July 22, 1968. I have listed the engines that are stated to have steam generators. I have also added some additional information from my copy of The EL Locomotive Diagram Book - Jan. 1973 Revision. 809-819 E-8 OK 4740 - 1950 Gals ** 820-833 E-8 OK 4740 - 1950 Gals ** 900-913& RS-2 OK 4616 - 800 Gals 2 units - #s not specified 950-954 RS-2 OK 4625 - 800 Gals Balance of the 17 units 914-933 RS-3 OK 4625 - 800 Gals * 1400-1404 GP-7 OK 4625 - 800 Gals 1405-1409 GP-7 OK 4625 - 1100 Gals I understand that the OK 4xxx units are Clarkson Vapor Phase. * MY 1973 Locomotive Diagram Book indicates that 914 & 915 had Superheater M-2 steam generators. ** MY 1973 Locomotive Diagram Book indicates that 816 had an OK-4740 steam generator and 821-825, 829-831 & 833 had Superheater M-2 steam generators. The other engines had no steam generators by Jan. 1973. These are the engines that I have any such information on. I cannot tell from the Locomotive Diagram Book when or if the E-8 steam generators were changed between 1968 and 1973. I assume that those without steam generators had them removed in that time period. There is consistency between the 1968 Document and the 1973 Locomotive Diagram Book on the balance of the engines listed. Hopefully this information will clarify more than muddy the situation for those who are interested. Ben Bartlett # 250 ------------------------------
