In April 1969 Summit NJ celebrated it's centennial. Part of the celebration included several round trips on the Gladstone branch from Summit to Berkeley Heights using MCC #385 and several Boonton coaches. For water the fire department provided a pumper truck that was positioned near the Rahway Valley interchange. During much of the day GP-7 1405 in fresh GMY and two mainline passenger or business cars were parked on the westbound main in the station. I suspect this train may have served as a base for EL management to oversee the days events? In the evening a geep couple to #385 and towed it back to Morristown. Was this #385's only revenue off line venture? Showing her age and In need of repairs, It was one of the last trips 385 made under steam I believe. This engine belongs in Spencer NC. at the former Southern Railway shops, now preserved as the Transportation museum. It's a fantastic location. They would love to have a genuine Southern Railway 2-8-0 operating, or on display down there! Plus It would get plenty of TLC that's for sure. 385 ran on the EL, list content.
