(erielack) EL RS's with air cooled turbo and GMY paint

I was looking over the posted photo of the Lifelike RS-2 painted as EL 911
in GMY. The model represents the air cooled turbo with it's length wise
stack. In reviewing photos I found several units including the 911, that had
been repainted in GMY and maintained the air cooled stack. The water cooled
turbo upgrades had started back in the mid 1950's? I found it interesting
that the EL was repainting these units into GMY but not upgrading the
troublesome air cooled turbo. Does anyone know why these units retained the
old air cooled turbo so late?
