Re: (erielack) Rail trails-Jefferson Division

> "Far from Orange County but still very interesting is the Jefferson
Division from near Carbondale, PA north to Lanesboro (Starrucca Viaduct).
This is officially called the D&H trail but it was built by the Erie and
owned by it until 1955. There are a couple bridges gone near Thompson and
Ararat and one near Stevens Point but otherwise is very good biking. The
nearby O&W trail can be used to make some nice circle trips."

--The O& W trailhead is in Simpson, PA., Rt. 171, at the D&H Viaduct.
Large parking area at D&H (ERIE) trail in Forest City, PA. Watch for bear
near Pleasant Mount. The trails connect with New York State Rail-to-Trail
near Lanesboro, PA. Both trails are more often used by ATVs and snowmobiles
than by bicycles and pedestrians.

"The DL&W Montrose branch is in the same general area and is a trail but I
have yet to do it.

--The Montrose branch mostly parallels the main road from Rt. 81 into
Montrose, and therefore is less interesting. At least one resident has
incorporated the trail into his driveway.
