Listers:

I made up the list below by going through a 1978 document that Frank Reilly recently gave me (he's cleaning out his office now that he has retired after 32 years as head of the Morris County (NJ) Transportation Department). Listed below are the active rail stations in Morris County (as of 1978), the Agent name, Agent Hours, and 1977 ridership. Note that this ridership info appears to count every passenger twice (once when they board and once when they detrain). Typically ridership by station is reported by "Boarding Riders" which would generally be half of the number reported here.

I imagine this can get messy when the text wraps each line, so be patient.

While it is from the Conrail era, I thought folks might find it interesting, especially since the agents are (I presume) all E-L men. It seems so often we all get wrapped up in the locomotive rivet counting mode that we ignore the human side of the railroad, so I thought this would be a way to perhaps have some discussion on this issue. I know there are some ex EL guys on the list who perhaps know some of these folks.

Enjoy

A.A. DeVito is a name I certainly recognize as an "Erie" name, but I don't know him. I
think this is who Frank Capalbo dedicated his Erie C140 caboose to (this car is on the Black River &Western). I presume that means Mr. DeVito used to work on the Newark Branch in Nutley.
