Time for commentary on the EL calendar photo for this month... Two big units, a U36C and SDP45, power frreight TC-4 up the grade out of Port Jervis. Notable is that both units still have their black roofs (haven't been repainted yet), and the lead U36C appears to be showing its hard work well in the form of some pretty strong wetahering on the fuel tank, trucks and battery boxes. The two units certainly brighten up an otherwise stark early Spring scene. The caption notes that the train has cars for Maybrook. In a month's time, there will not be anymore such traffic after the Poughkeepsie Bridge burns and Penn Central reroutes traffic to the New Haven via its NYC lines, taking away a large EL interchange point. Taking into account the railroad's dire financial condition at this time, the tracks here appear to be fairly well maintained. - Paul Paul R.
