Paul -- whose class N-3 was NYS&W # 140? On the Erie, N-3 was a 2-8-2, post-USRA and immediate predecessor to the Berkshitres -- again, a large and relatively modern engine. There were a bunch of them used in heavy freight systemwide.

The original NYS&W 140 (class N-3) was brought onto NYS&W property by the Erie, and the story as I remember it states that NYS&W management looked at it and said, "Are you kidding me?" Apparently, it was QUITE the chunky Mikado. So the Erie took it back and assigned it to Port Jervis where it served out the rest of its career.
