Todd,
I went exploring one time in some of the old store house buildings
down by the Scranton diesel shop. By myself and only with a flashlight. Those
buildings had some large room vaults with doors that locked. I always worried
about getting locked in one of the vaults and not having my body found for
years. ELRRB65
PS, it was not me that took the plywood down.

Hey ELRRB65... was that you who pried open the door on the Trackside of the
Scranton Station? :)

When I got my drivers license in 1979 one of my first destinations was
Scranton Pa. It was about 7pm when we decided to stop by the station, I discovered
the plywood over the main entrance was wide open, of course a buddy and I
entered the abandoned station! I still recall as we entered the dark waiting
room a huge flock of pidgins flew up from the lobby area, still full of old
wooden benches, flying in a circle they finally perched themselves all over the
upper floors and skylight.

We walked all around the station and soon found such things as the old
ticket office, Scranton Division offices and even the former Dispatchers office.
But it was when we braved the musty, cool dark spooky basement where we
discovered all the Lackawanna paperwork! Tons of it!! We just sifted through as
much of it as we could in the short time we stayed down there, (Hey we were
scared.. ya know ghosts and all) reading all the interesting items. I recall lots
of old correspondence and company records were stacked everywhere. I wish I
"preserved" something that night, but we left it all. A very dusty place
indeed, but I think some of the was also water damaged. What ashame.

Every time I enter the station today it amazes me it’s the same abandoned
place we explored 25 years ago!
